Blinds News & Commentary

I have been in need of some new drapes or blinds on some of my windows in my home for some time. I decided to check around town and online and see which way was the best way for my money and what I could get. I have in my dining room on one wall the equivalent of three windows length that I need a new window treatment.

After searching for companies that offer what I am looking for, I discovered JustBlinds.com on the internet that offers a variety of blinds, free shipping and free samples for me to look through. I like the fact that they are a member of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and bbbonline.com and have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee.

I decided on fabric vertical blinds; PVC, fabric or faux wood available, since it would give the window a beautiful window covering for that length of window. It would allow me to have as much light or as little light coming into the room as I wanted. With their super low discount prices, it makes it affordable to buy from them with their secure online ordering. My order could be shipped within 5 to 7 days. It is exciting to think about having new custom vertical blinds for my dining room window.

JustBlinds dot com is another place I’ve ran across that sells all kinds of blinds; vertical, faux and real wood blinds, cellular shades, aluminum blinds, roman shades, natural wood shades, pvc, fabric and faux wood verticals, shutters and other types of shades.  Right now they’re having a sale on the 1″ wood blinds and have lowered the price of the 2″ wood blinds.  Also there is a sale on sheer verticals.

Anyone responsible for buying curtains, blinds or other window treatments in a home knows how expensive it can be.  If you own your home then you usually only have to do it once, unless you get tired of looking at what you have.  Renters might have to do it more often, depending on how often they move and have different sized windows.

JustBlinds.com can make your blinds in only ONE day!  That is amazing and it means you won’t have to wait very long to get them.  They have free samples too which is a good deal, since if you went to a local ‘hardware’ type store, you would have to pay for your samples, if you could get them at all.  If you’re in the market for some of these products, give them a look-see.  You might just save some money.

I suppose since we are a couple of days into this it makes sense to at least provide an overview of the types of bamboo blinds and shades that we have seen. I won’t go in depth on them or this will be one heck of a post, but I will provide some links so you can learn more.

  • Bamboo shades rollup - these are the old stand by, and are generally fairly inexpensive. I have a pair in my home from Ikea that were (obviously) very inexpensive, and they do look nice in a matchstick style. You can also get some nice ones at places such as pier 1, cost plus, etc. I am not sure I love how they work - I don’t want to say its hard to do, because it is not, but I just don’t love the look, and for whatever reason they come out of their cords a lot.
  • Bamboo roman shades - these have come into vogue more recently. Generally you’ll pay a bit more than the rollup type. And many times you can customize to fit your windows precisely. There are so many styles and options to these blinds - that they can range from functional to elegant. Some of the more fine grasses can provide a really unique look, and if you add some edge banding - you can match just about blinds - there are two types of these that I have seen.
    • Type 1) Woven wood place on slats (generally 2″) - these have quite a rustic look to them and can really spruce up your room. I cannot find a pic on the net anywhere of these. I imagine there is not an enormous market for these - but if you are looking for that tiki type feel to a room in your home, these may be perfect.
    • Type 2) Regular slats that look like general 2″ blinds, except rather than basswood material, the construction is 100% bamboo. These can be gorgeous, and although sometimes a bit more expensive, bamboo is stronger, and of course offers all the eco- benefits. I’ve seen these at target, but I am not sure they offer the customization necessary to get that perfect fit. From what I hear, these are fairly popular in

Also, please suggest other types that you may know of!
